Semaglutide is a glucagon like peptide-1 used for the treatment of obesity. It was first approved in the U.S in 2017 to improve glycemic control in patients with Type 2 diabetes. Recently, once-weekly injections of Semaglutide have been shown to be an effective solution for patients who are having difficulty losing weight, helping them to lose as much as 15% of body fat in 6 months. Semaglutide now carries an FDA approval indicated as an adjunct to a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in overweight or obese adult patients.

How Semaglutide Helps Weight Loss
Here’s how semaglutide helps with weight loss:
- Appetite Suppression: Semaglutide acts on the GLP-1 receptors in the brain, which help to regulate appetite and food intake. It can reduce hunger and cravings, making it easier for people to consume fewer calories.
- Slowing Gastric Emptying: Semaglutide slows down the rate at which the stomach empties, which can lead to a feeling of fullness or satiety after eating smaller amounts of food. This contributes to reduced calorie intake.
- Improved Insulin Sensitivity: Semaglutide can enhance insulin sensitivity in the body, which helps to regulate blood sugar levels and reduce the storage of excess calories as fat.
- Increased Energy Expenditure: Some studies suggest that semaglutide may increase energy expenditure, meaning that the body burns more calories at rest.
- Changes in Food Preferences: Semaglutide may also influence food preferences, making individuals more inclined to choose healthier foods and avoid high-calorie, high-fat options.
It’s important to note that semaglutide for weight loss is typically prescribed under medical supervision by Revitalize Health & Wellness, and is used as part of a comprehensive weight management program that includes dietary changes and increased physical activity. The exact mechanism of action and the extent of weight loss can vary from person to person, and individual results may differ.
GLP1’S (Semaglutide) HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO:
- Improved glycemic control: GLP1’S (Semaglutide) works by stimulating insulin secretion and reducing glucagon secretion, which helps to regulate blood sugar levels. It effectively reduces HbA1c levels (a measure of blood sugar control over time) in patients with type 2 diabetes.
- Weight loss: GLP1’S (Semaglutide) have been found to promote weight loss in patients with type 2 diabetes. This may be due to its effects on reducing appetite and food intake and its ability to promote fat burning.
- Cardiovascular benefits: GLP1’S have has been shown to have potential cardiovascular benefits by reducing the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes who are at high risk for cardiovascular disease.
- Potential neuroprotective effects: Some studies suggest that GLP1’S may have potential neuroprotective effects by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress in the brain. This may have potential benefits for conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
- Potential kidney-protective effects: GLP1’S have has been shown to have potential kidney-protective effects by reducing the risk of kidney damage and progression of kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes.

FAQ:
What are compounding pharmacies?
Compounding pharmacies are allowed under the U.S. Food, Drugs, and Cosmetic Act. They are required to use only FDA regulated facilities and manufacturers to compound medications. They are subject to FDA and State Board Pharmacy inspections. If the drug is currently experiencing a shortage, the FDA looks to the compounding pharmacies to fill the gap. They also can make custom formulas that might not be offered by brand name drug manufacturers. They require a prescription just like the local pharmacy.
We work with state regulated compound pharmacies throughout the U.S. that can offer a better price for medications and supplements and in turn can pass the savings on to you. They legally can make any medication that is on the FDA shortage list such as Semaglutide and Tirzepatide.
Why do I need labs?
We want to determine if there are any contraindications to you using GLP1’s.
Can I use labs from a previous doctor?
Yes in most cases, you can if they are appropriate labs and within 6 months or if approved by us.
Can I come to you if I have been on semaglutide/tirzepatide from another provider?
Yes, pricing will be determined by your current dose.
Do you take insurance?
No, insurance is not accepted at this practice.
It’s possible to use your FSA or HSA but you must check with your employer or program to determine this.
